The city issued an order on Oct. 14 directing residents on more than two dozen streets to limit their usage after damage to the pumphouse on Farrell Drive.
City crews had to conduct emergency repairs because of the damage. Later, Mount Pearl was forced to enact conservation measures.
“While operations have been stabilized, the system is now functioning at a limited capacity; residents and businesses in the affected area are being asked to use water for essential purposes only until further notice,” said a spokesperson for Mount Pearl.
The damage to the pumphouse and what will be needed to make it fully operational are still being assessed.

In the conservation order, Mount Pearl is asking residents not to water their lawns, gardens or landscaping of any kind.
They’re also advising residents not to use water to wash their vehicles, boats, trailers or other recreational vehicles. The use of pressure washers for cleaning is prohibited, as well as decorative fountains and the like.
Residents are asked to consider taking shorter showers, run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads only and try to keep faucets and toilets from leaking.
The city said conserving water is to help maintain water levels and system pressure as crews continue repairs on the system.
“The cause of the failure is under review, and city staff are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available,” said the spokesperson.
