The Malawi Women’s National Football Team have maintained a positive attitude after arriving in Harare, Zimbabwe, Sunday, ahead of Tuesday’s 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games second leg qualifier against Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors.
The Scorchers have been accommodated at Cresta Oasis Hotel in Harare.
The Scorchers travel with a healthy advantage, having defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 during the first-leg
match at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe City, where the Chawinga sisters—Temwa and Tabitha— scored on either side of the half.
In Lilongwe, the team won the first-leg match 2-0, with Temwa and Tabitha scoring one goal each to put Malawi firmly in control of the tie.
Despite having the cushion, Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili has warned his players against complacency.
“Zimbabwe are a good team. We have two goals but we do not know how it will end in Zimbabwe. We are much ready,” Fazili said.
The tie will be settled on aggregate over two legs.
Malawi need to protect their lead in Harare for them to go through, while Zimbabwe must overturn a two-goal deficit on home soil.
The winner of the tie is expected to face Kenya or Seychelles in the third round.
Kenya’s Harambee Starlets won their first-leg match 11-0 away to Seychelles.
