Team USA’s gymnasts are aiming for gold this week at the 2026 World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with Olympic medal-winning names like Hezly Rivera and Frederick Richard headlining American rosters.
However, of the twelve American athletes tumbling for gold in Holland, one of the brightest stars could be the youngest.

U.S. Gymnasts Arrive At World Championships With Limited Experience, Big Potential
Charleigh Bullock is only 16 years old, but the first-year senior elite gymnast already looks like a seasoned veteran. A native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Bullock trains at Capital Gymnastics under former Ukrainian gymnastics champion-turned-coach Tatiana Perskaia.
Make no mistake – avid gymnastics fans and experts had Bullock on their radar. By just 15, the teenager had amassed five gold medals at the Junior Pan American Games and won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships.
In 2025, she went undefeated domestically on her signature event, the uneven bars. And although her junior gymnastics accolades are admittedly impressive, Bullock’s results as a first-year senior raised eyebrows.
Charleigh Bullock’s Breakout Season
She burst onto the scene at February’s Winter Cup, winning gold on the uneven bars and silver in the all-around at her first competition on the senior elite circuit. At Italy’s City of Jesolo Trophy, she helped Team USA to gold while winning a pair of silver medals in the all-around and on the uneven bars. A few months later, she claimed team gold and all-around silver at the Pan American Championships.
Earning a Spot on the World Team
While her rookie resume was already robust, Bullock needed to deliver when it mattered most: at the U.S. Championships.
Instead of faltering under the weight of expectation, Bullock delivered a 100% hit rate at her first senior national championships, securing bronze in the all-around and on the uneven bars. She also finished in the top five on the balance beam and floor exercise, for good measure.
Bullock was named to her first senior U.S. National Team, earning an invite to the World Team Selection Event, where she sealed the deal.
With major international aspirations on the line, the teenager once again hit at a 100% success rate, delivering another strong all-around score to clinch one of two automatic bids for the 2026 World team – she edged out two-time U.S. Champion Hezly Rivera in the process.
Charleigh’s Secret Weapon
While Bullock doesn’t have the difficulty of Claire Pease, the power of Reese Esponda, or the star power of Hezly Rivera, she has two qualities that can prevail above them all: consistency and calm.
While the numbers speak for themselves, Bullock is poised beyond her years, and seems to approach every competition with few expectations or worries.
When she edged out Rivera for the second automatic spot, her initial reaction was obvious: shock. “So shocked. I was like, no way,” she told Olympics.com in September, reacting to the results.
The look on her face at August’s U.S. nationals was similar. “I didn’t know I was gonna go like this,” she said. While Bullock didn’t anticipate the moment, she was prepared for it.
"I knew I could," she concluded.
How to Watch Team USA
Bullock and Team USA will begin their medal push in the qualifying round on Sunday, October 18, in Rotterdam. The 16-year-old looks to help Team USA to its eighth consecutive world team title, but has individual potential to contend for a medal on the uneven bars.
