A Gauteng man is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon for the alleged murders of his two daughters, aged one and 11.
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) officers arrested the 34-year-old man on Thursday afternoon.
The EMPD spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa, said the alleged murders took place on Tuesday.
“The arrest follows information received from a reliable source regarding a suspect who allegedly poured sleeping pills into his family's food. Two of his daughters were declared dead at the scene, while his wife and another daughter survived the incident. The suspect fled after the incident,” Thepa said.
A manhunt was launched for the man, and officers followed up on leads that led to his arrest at the corner of Lambert and Prince streets in the Germiston area.
“The suspect faces two counts of murder and two of attempted murder. He was detained at Germiston Police Station and is expected to appear soon before the Germiston Magistrate's Court,” Thepa said.
