Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 fitness tracker that sits between its screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5, the company said on Monday.
It is on pre-order now and reaches shops on 27 October. A Stephen Curry special edition costs $219.99.
Bigger screen, longer battery
The Edge has the largest and brightest screen Google has put on a tracker, with 46% more viewing area than earlier Fitbits. It is 11.5mm thin and lasts up to seven days on a charge, Google said.
It has built-in GPS, an ECG for heart rhythm checks and a skin temperature sensor. Google says it is its first fitness tracker with a replaceable battery.
Buyers get three months of Google Health Premium, which unlocks the AI health coach. After that, coaching needs a paid plan.
New health checks
Later this month, Premium users on the Edge and Fitbit Air will get Health Guardian. It tracks blood pressure trends and insulin resistance over time, though Google says the tools are for general wellness, not diagnosis.
The Edge, Air and recent Pixel Watches will also detect more than 100 types of workout automatically, up from 10.
Google also announced a deal with period tracker Flo to sync its data with the Google Health app from early 2027. Abbott’s Lingo glucose monitor and Function Health’s lab results will also connect in the US.
“Relentlessly iterating” has meant 55 feature updates in recent months, Google Health chief Rishi Chandra wrote.
The launch follows the $100 Fitbit Air, Google’s rival to Whoop.
