At a meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria's Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova urged China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, to use Beijing’s influence to help achieve de-escalation in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“The environment in which economic relations can develop requires predictability, freedom of navigation, and respect for international law'', said Velislava Petrova. Minister Petrova noted that stability is a shared interest and responsibility, particularly for countries that carry significant weight in international affairs.
“China often describes itself as a stabilizing force, and that is precisely what we need at the moment. In this context, we also discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine. Incidents in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea show that the war directly affects the security of shipping and trade routes between Europe and Asia”, Velislava Petrova said.
Bulgaria and China are ready to develop a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said following a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported.
