Drake Maye had a comparison from the NBA to use when it came to seeing New England Patriots co-star AJ Brown return from injury ahead of Week 6 this weekend.
Brown suffered a high ankle sprain during the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. This resulted in New England placing him on injured reserve, sidelining him for the next four games.
Brown returned to practice this week, making great progress as he won’t be on the IR for Week 6. This gives him the opening to play on Sunday, getting a great analogy from Maye regarding the receiver’s return.

“I think you see it in the NBA; it’s probably the closest thing that I can think of,” Maye said earlier this week, per ESPN. “When they start doubling the best player once they get past half court, then they’re just leaving a corner 3 open or leaving a guy open for a dunk. So it’s kind of like playing receiver with a guy like that.”
“We’ve got a lot of guys that have made plays now, so it’s going to be tough on defenses. But I know we’ve got a tough challenge this week, so looking forward to it.”
What lies ahead for Drake Maye, Patriots
It is great news for Drake Maye and the Patriots to get about AJ Brown. They landed him with the purpose of maximizing Maye and Brown’s chemistry together, seeing the top receiver return to the fold this weekend.
New England has performed well in Brown’s four-game absence, going 3-1 in the last fou games. They have a 3-2 record on the season, sitting at second place in the AFC East Division standings. They are above the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins while trailing the Buffalo Bills.
The Patriots will look forward to their next matchup, being at home. They host the Jets in Week 6 as kickoff commences on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. ET.
