Namirembe Diocese and the family of former Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekkadde have celebrated his legacy of faith and service, remembering his contribution to the Church of Uganda and the wider community.
Namirembe Diocese and the family of former Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekkadde have held a memorial service to honour his life and ministry, reflecting on his contribution to the Church of Uganda and the wider community.
The service was held at St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, and led by the current Bishop of Namirembe, the Rt Rev Moses Banja.
In his sermon, Bishop Banja thanked God for Ssekkadde’s life and ministry, highlighting his commitment to preaching the Gospel to ordinary people, school communities, older persons and people from different walks of life.
Banja described the late bishop’s ministry as a testament to a life dedicated to God’s work and the spiritual wellbeing of others.
“Bishop Ssekkadde’s ministry was a testament to a life well lived in the service of God, spreading the Gospel and touching lives across different communities,” Banja said.
The Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, delivered a message on behalf of the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.
In the message, Mayiga recalled Ssekkadde’s role in supporting the late Archbishop, the Most Rev Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo, in bringing Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda together in holy matrimony.
The Katikkiro also commended the late bishop for his dedication to preaching the Gospel, saying his ministry transformed lives and encouraged people to live in the fear of God.
“Through the preaching of the Gospel, Bishop Ssekkadde touched lives, transformed hearts and encouraged many to strengthen their relationship with God,” the message said.
Allen Ssekkadde, the late bishop’s widow, expressed gratitude to the Buganda Royal Family and the kingdom government for standing with her during her period of grief. She also appreciated the love and care extended to her husband during his lifetime.
“We are deeply grateful to the Royal Family and the Buganda Kingdom for standing with us during this difficult time and for the love they showed Bishop Ssekkadde while he was still alive,” she said.
Ssekkadde’s ministry was remembered as one marked by faith, service and commitment to spreading the Gospel. His contribution to the Church of Uganda and the wider community continues to form part of his legacy.
As the Church and the faithful reflect on his life, his example remains an inspiration to those committed to Christian ministry and service to others.
