Storm Adam will linger across Mallorca on Tuesday morning and the island will remain on yellow alert until 12.00. The forecast indicates that 30 litres of rain per square metre could fall in just one hour.
The Aemet met. office has warned that the storms could be accompanied by heavy or very heavy rainfall, and has not ruled out occasional very strong gusts of wind. Furthermore, it specifies that these are “most likely during the night of 19 October and the early hours of 20 October”.
The Aemet’s regional representative and spokesperson, María José Guerrero, explained that this is because a trough will break away from the cold front, which “will affect us tonight”. She therefore urges all members of the public to exercise caution.
Looking ahead to Tuesday afternoon, the sky will tend to be partly cloudy with the occasional shower. Night-time temperatures will remain largely unchanged, whilst daytime temperatures will fall. Meanwhile, the wind will be light to moderate from the south, veering westwards in the morning.
Stable conditions will gradually take hold and on Wednesday, 21 October, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with mainly clear skies during the middle of the day. However, light rainfall in the early hours of the morning cannot be ruled out. Night-time temperatures will fall, whilst daytime temperatures will remain largely unchanged or rise slightly. The wind will blow from the west, ranging from light to moderate.
The heavy rainfall in the Balearics caused by storm Adam has resulted in significant accumulated rainfall reaching 83.4 l/m² in Ibiza (up to 14.20), 75.9 l/m² at Ibiza Airport (up to 14.30) and 53.2 l/m² in Lluc, in the Mallorcan municipality of Escorca (up to 14.20).
Also noteworthy are the 53 l/m² in Sant Elm, Andratx, over the last 24 hours (up to 14.20), 45 l/m² in Es Capdellà (up to 13.00) and 43 l/m² in Binissalem (up to 14.00), 42.7 l/m² at Mahón Airport, 42.4 l/m² in Santa Maria del Camí, 39.2 l/m² and Palma.
Of the ten locations in Spain with the highest accumulated rainfall over the last 24 hours, four are in the Balearic Islands: Ibiza, Es Codolar, Lluc and Sant Elm. Yesterday was also a windy day in the Balearics with gusts of 86 km/h at Puerto Soller, 82 km/h at Cabrera, 67 km/h on Formentera and 63 km/h at Ibiza Airport.
