When you can have cult status, who needs the mainstream?
The Cult Status Runway on day three of Melbourne Fashion Week showcased designers who have inspired devoted followers.
Among them was Wilson Jedd Adams, with the third instalment in a four-part collection that treads the line between concept art and fashion.
Starting with Metropolis and Paper Dolls, part three is titled Fantastic Plastic, and the garments are constructed from just that - polyester, cellophane, tape, plastic bags and tablecloths.
"It's expanding from the city and it goes down to what's littered all over the city," Wilson Jedd Adams told AAP.
He sent four separate looks down the runway held at State Library Victoria Wednesday night.
It also included Chris Ran Lin, Club Venus, Gotham, Liandra, Perple, Toile Studios and art knitwear brand Wah-Wah Australia.
For Wilson Jedd Adams at least, artistic vision doesn't mean not worrying about customers.
"We're probably going to pivot a bit into more ready-to-wear, a story with layers and also finding a way to repeat things that people gravitate to as well," he said.
For those that can't make it to a runway show, the 2026 program also includes fashion capsules dotted around the city.
They include a bridal fashion showcase outside the Melbourne Town Hall, with designs by Vera Wang Bride and Vivienne Westwood.
Melbourne Fashion Week runs until Sunday.
