U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio began his India visit in Mumbai with a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Gateway of India, followed by a wreath-laying tribute to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Rubio also held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on strengthening India-US cooperation in trade, energy, defence and technology. With both countries working towards a trade deal amid differences over tariffs and Russian crude oil imports, the visit carries significant strategic and economic importance. Rubio’s next stop is Jamnagar, Gujarat, where energy cooperation is set to take centre stage.
