Bayern Munich will face Arsenal at home in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League later today, but will do so without one of their most important players. Ahead of the clash, the club shared a somber update regarding the availability of Joshua Kimmich through their official X handle.
The club announced that midfielder and vice-captain Joshua Kimmich will not be available for the game due to the passing of a close family member:
Due to a passing in his immediate family, Joshua Kimmich is not in the squad today for the match against Arsenal. On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected, and that further inquiries and reporting be refrained from. We send our deepest condolences to Joshua Kimmich and his loved ones.
Bild is reporting that Kimmich’s father, Berthold, has passed away:
BILD has learned from sources close to him that the Bayern star and German international is mourning the sudden death of his father, Berthold (57).
There are likely few things more important than football to Kimmich, but family is above all else. We wish Kimmich and his family strength to get through these tough times together.
