Film Association of Malawi (Fama) has unveiled a K250 million budget for its annual gathering to be held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on November 26 2026.
Apart from screenings of movies and discussions among others, the gala is expected to attract local film practitioners and seasoned Nollywood stars.
Fama Secretary General Scot Kaphinde said the presence of international guests is a big boost for the gala.
“For the first time in the history of the Malawi Awards and Gala, we are going to have more than 20 international guests coming from among others, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa,” Kaphinde said.
He said that the expanded programme would give local filmmakers a chance to network and learn from seasoned professionals across Africa.
Fama President Dorothy Kingston revealed that seasoned Nollywood filmmakers such as Patience Ozokwor popularly known as Mama G, Kanayo O and Kanayo will be part of the gala.
“This shows the relationship that the country has with filmmakers from other countries. A Nollywood film titled Ikenga will also premiere,” Kingston said.
Fama has since indicated that the K250 million budget is being funded by partners such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the Department of Arts and Bex Limited among others.
The gala is also expected to decorate filmmakers with awards in different categories and they include Best Malawian Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best TV Series, Best Online Series and Best Picture.
