Synopsis
IndiGo and Air India Group will gradually transition their flight operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport. This shift is scheduled to begin in December 2026 and will continue until mid-2027. The airlines aim to free up capacity at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for new international routes. IndiGo plans to connect passengers between domestic and international services at NMIA.
ReutersIndiGo and Air India Group will progressively shift domestic and international flight operations from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) starting December 2026.
The move is part of a broader plan to redevelop CSMIA’s Terminal 1 by 2030. It will also free up capacity at the existing airport as operations expand across Mumbai’s two airports.

IndiGo
IndiGo will progressively transfer 12 daily international departures from CSMIA to NMIA. The shift will cover its existing services to Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta.
The airline will also introduce a daily service to Kathmandu. Between February and July 2027, this will take IndiGo’s international network at NMIA to 12 destinations.

IndiGo will also shift the domestic operations needed to support these international flights, allowing passengers to connect between domestic and international services at NMIA. The airport operator, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), has been working with the airline to put the required infrastructure in place.
The shift will free up capacity at CSMIA for IndiGo to introduce new international services across Asia, Africa and Europe in 2027, using its expanding fleet of A320, A321 and A321XLR aircraft.
Air India Express
Air India Group will also move some of its West Asia operations to NMIA. Air India Express will begin operating four daily domestic flights from the airport in December 2026, followed by planned services to Kuwait and existing services to Oman from January 2027.
The airline will progressively transfer services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah to NMIA. The process is expected to be completed by the Northern Summer 2027 season.
Air India Group said the transition followed discussions with the airport operator and formed part of the wider plan for Indian and international airlines to redistribute operations between the two airports. It is also intended to help the group continue serving Mumbai while preserving the historicity of its existing operating slots at CSMIA.
