The Government of Mozambique has approved a resolution authorising the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy to sell at public auction mineral products seized during inspections and operations to tackle illegal mining.
The decision was taken at the Council of Ministers’ 29th ordinary session on 13 October.
The seized minerals will be auctioned as part of the Conference on Adding Value to Mineral and Energy Resources – Available (CAVAME-d) and the Nacala Gem Fair (FAGENA). Both events will take place in the city of Nacala, Nampula Province, from 19 to 24 October 2026.
The auction lots will include gemstones, precious and semi-precious stones and gold confiscated by the inspection authorities.
The minerals to be sold include rubies, tourmalines, aquamarines, garnets, topazes, tantalite and gold.
The initiative aims to strengthen transparency in the extractive sector and ensure that revenue from the sale of seized minerals goes directly to the state coffers.
The event also seeks to attract domestic and international buyers and investors to promote the local processing and transformation of minerals.
