ADEN – Military confrontations between Yemeni government forces, backed by the Saudi-led Coalition supporting legitimacy, and the Houthi movement continued to escalate across several fronts on Tuesday, as heavy fighting raged in Taiz, Marib, and the Kahboub area near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The latest developments come amid a broader military escalation that has included cross-border attacks, drone interceptions, and mutual accusations of targeting civilian-populated areas.
According to military statements issued by government forces, a total of 744 military operations were carried out over the past 24 hours.
The operations reportedly resulted in the neutralization of approximately 200 Houthi fighters and the destruction or disabling of 90 military vehicles and equipment assets.
The Houthis, meanwhile, accused Saudi Arabia of conducting 93 airstrikes and a missile attack during the same period, highlighting the growing intensity of the conflict.
In Taiz Governorate, government forces said they repelled multiple Houthi attacks on the fronts of Al-Shaqab, Al-Masrakh, and Al-Aqroud south of the city, as well as in the areas surrounding Mount Han and Al-Dhabab to the west. Military officials also reported thwarting an attempted Houthi advance in the northern sector of the province.
Government military sources stated that the clashes and coalition air operations in Taiz resulted in the deaths of 98 Houthi fighters and injuries to 148 others.
Colonel Majed Abdullah Al-Nuzaili, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said government troops had successfully contained several coordinated attacks while maintaining control of key positions.
The escalation has also extended into the political and economic spheres. The Central Bank of Yemen in Aden announced directives requiring banks and exchange companies to freeze funds, accounts, and assets linked to 135 individuals and entities designated on terrorism lists, in what officials described as an effort to combat financing networks associated with armed groups.
Regionally, debate intensified in Egypt over the possibility of providing military support to Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian parliament postponed a vote on authorizing the deployment of armed forces until October 26, fueling discussions about Cairo's potential role in the evolving conflict.
