The Newly installed leader of the Budaka clan under the Bagwere Cultural Institution has expressed worries, saying that traditional institutions are facing political interference, which puts their future at stake.
Speaking shortly after his coronation at Budaka Saza grounds on Saturday, Mr Mathias Daka said traditional leaders and the preservation of cultural identity have come under threat due to wrangles and intrigues.
‘’The institution is being undermined by politics. It is politics that is likely to kill off the institution. But clan heads in the Bugwere land should stand firm and redirect the institution, ‘’ Mr Daka said
He emphasised that cultural institutions must be built on a strong foundation of leadership, be united and work as a team to overcome the threats of divisionism being perpetrated by politicians.
Mr Daka said that he believes that cultural leadership should instead focus on preserving customs, promoting unity and safeguarding the community heritage rather than becoming entangled with politics.
To be stronger, he noted that cultural institutions must promote education and mobilise their people towards wealth creation, food security and embrace government programs.
The new clan head also unveiled his 17 executive committee member that will serve as his ministers. Budaka is one of the 87 clans recognised under the Bagwere Cultural Institution.
In a similar tone, Budaka County Member of Parliament, Mr Moses Goire, challenged cultural institutions against betraying their subjects for self-gain.
