SHILLONG, OCT 14: Over 88,000 ST students in Meghalaya have received full scholarship under the Umbrella Post-Matric Scholarship for 2025-26, with the State releasing the final instalment on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma released the second and final instalment at St Anthony’s College, Shillong, stating that scholarship remains a key concern for students.
“One of the main concerns of students is related to scholarship, Today I am very happy to release the scholarship for the academic year 2025-26 and to be able to live up to your expectations and fulfil some of your needs and aspirations,” he said.
He said the DBT process has already been initiated and students whose payment is pending should ensure their bank account is active and seeded with Aadhaar through their institutions.
Sangma said some verified beneficiaries are yet to be paid because Aadhaar is not linked with an active account or PFMS responses are pending, and departments have been asked to monitor and re-process every such case till full payment.
“For us you are the most important part of our government and are at the heart of the decision making of the government,” he told the gathering of students from St Anthony’s College and nearby institutions, adding that Government policies are framed keeping student welfare in mind.
He urged beneficiaries to use the money prudently for educational needs.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the PG Block Biotechnology Department and Bio-Informatics Lab, renovated amenities and RUSA 2.0 equipment and the Computer Lab under CM Skills Mission at the college.
As per official figures, 96,801 students were verified for 2025-26, of which 88,061, 91 per cent, have received full amount. This includes 52,839 fresh applicants and 35,222 renewals.
