The Chicago Bearswill have Caleb Williams on the field on Sunday, as he finally returns from his hamstring injury for the Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. However, after several weeks of the offense utilizing Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum, head coach Ben Johnson has a decision to make about who will serve as the backup.
Reports on Sunday morning reveal that Bagent will be the immediate backup behind Williams, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. Keenum, on the other hand, will dress down as the emergency third quarterback for the Bears.
“Tyson Bagent [is] the backup to Caleb Williams today, with Case Keenum the emergency QB for the Bears,” Garafolo reported.

Bagent gets the backup nod from Johnson, despite the fact that he’s played much worse than Keenum. But the Bears have invested more money in the former, as the club gave him a two-year, $10 million contract extension in the summer of 2025. In his three appearances before Caleb Williams’ return, the fourth-year veteran has thrown for 409 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions while completing 65.6% of his pass attempts.
Williams enters this contest with 407 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception through two games this season. The 24-year-old signal-caller also owns a 65.5% completion percentage, along with 107 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. The Bears offense should look much improved after the last several weeks were like a roller coaster.
The Bears are scheduled to kick off against the Falcons at 1 p.m. EST. It will be a road game for the franchise and Williams’ first game back in action.
