Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) established on behalf of Indian Overseas Bank at a cost of ₹3.75 crore at Priya Nagar near Velladichivilai, within the Nagercoil Corporation limits.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Rajesh Kumar said that although the Kanniyakumari district had performed well in the field of education, a skill development training centre had been established to address the employment challenges and enable rural youth and women to become self employed.
Despite holding a pass percentage of 92%, the youth of Kanniyakumari were facing difficulties in finding work after completing studies compared to the neighbouring state Kerala, he said. To address this challenge, various vocational training will be provided through this organisation to rural youth and women to develop their skills and become self- reliant, the Minister added.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar noted that training would be offered in various sectors, including sewing, photography, embroidery and production of value added products. He said that the training institute would be a great help to thousands of rural youth from Kanniyakumari district by helping them establish their own businesses and improve their livelihoods.
During the event, Mr. Rajesh Kumar has presented certificates to 20 entrepreneurs who completed their training at RSETI and running their own businesses.
Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap, District Lead Bank Manager Selvaraj, Nagercoil MLA S. Austin, Nagercoil Corporation in-charge Mayor Mary Princy Latha and other officials were present.
