Tottenham transfer news: Yuito Suzuki interest faces Freiburg’s €45m valuation
Yuito Suzuki’s appeal to Tottenham lies in the range of attacking problems he might help solve. The obstacle is whether Freiburg can be persuaded to part with a player they value at up to €45 million during the season.
The Japan international is reportedly attracting interest from Spurs and AC Milan, with Roberto De Zerbi looking to strengthen his attacking options ahead of January. Suzuki’s ability to operate centrally or on either flank makes him an intriguing name in that search.
According to Fussball News, in a report covered by CaughtOffside, Tottenham are among the leading contenders. Yet the financial figures currently being discussed suggest there is work to do before interest could become an agreement.

Yuito Suzuki versatility attracts Tottenham attention
Suzuki has impressed since moving to Freiburg from Brondby, with his technical quality, creativity and movement drawing attention from other European clubs.
At 24, he offers options as an attacking midfielder, second striker or wide player. That flexibility could give De Zerbi greater scope to adjust his attack without depending on a specialist signing for each position.
The qualities highlighted in the reporting include an ability to find room in crowded areas and contribute goals. Those attributes could be useful to a side seeking more consistent attacking performances across several competitions.
There is, however, a difference between covering several positions and being equally effective in every role. Tottenham would need to establish where Suzuki could make his strongest contribution and how that would complement their existing players.
His versatility explains the attraction. A clear role would help determine whether he represents the right investment.
Freiburg valuation creates gap in transfer discussions
Freiburg reportedly value Suzuki at between €40 million and €45 million. They are also reluctant to lose an important attacking player midway through the campaign.
Tottenham and Milan are said to be considering proposals worth around €35 million, including potential performance-related bonuses. Those packages would fall below Freiburg’s reported valuation even if all the additional payments were achieved.
That distinction matters when assessing the size of the gap. A package dependent partly on future performance does not provide the same certainty as an equivalent guaranteed payment.
The reporting does not establish that either club has submitted a formal offer. These are proposals reportedly under consideration, rather than bids Freiburg have accepted or rejected.
Any negotiations would therefore need to address both the overall amount and how it would be paid. Simply reaching a similar headline figure might not be enough to satisfy the selling club.
Milan interest adds another consideration
Milan’s reported interest gives Tottenham a potential rival, while Real Sociedad are also monitoring Suzuki’s progress.
Scouts from interested clubs have reportedly watched him this season, although that attention should not be mistaken for a confirmed bidding contest.
For Suzuki, any eventual decision would involve more than choosing a league or club. His anticipated role, opportunities to play and the plans of the manager seeking to sign him would all be relevant considerations.
For Tottenham, the presence of other interested teams could affect the timing of their decision. They may want further evidence before committing a substantial fee, while recognising that another club could choose to act sooner.
That creates pressure to assess the opportunity carefully, without assuming that a deal must be completed simply because competitors are watching.
January move depends on Freiburg’s willingness
Suzuki’s contract reportedly contains no active release clause, allowing Freiburg to set their negotiating terms if an approach arrives.
Combined with their reluctance to sell during the season, that gives the Bundesliga club considerable control over the situation. An interested buyer would have to present an offer persuasive enough to change their position.
For De Zerbi, Suzuki could offer another source of creativity and greater flexibility in the final third. For Tottenham’s recruitment team, the question is whether those benefits justify meeting Freiburg’s demands.
At present, the story remains one of reported interest and differing financial expectations. Until a formal proposal emerges, Suzuki’s potential move is an option being explored rather than a transfer approaching completion.
