Germany U21 youth international Nicolò Tresoldi made UEFA Champions League history on Tuesday night, becoming only the second player to score a hat-trick in a single match at the San Siro as Club Brugge beat Inter 4-3 in a spectacle under the lights.
In doing so, Tresoldi repeated the feat that Gareth Bale achieved with Tottenham, against Inter, in 2020.
“It was unbelievable, indescribable,” he told Sky Italia. “I’ve dreamt of an evening like this so often, but to score three goals and win here at the San Siro is beyond words.
“My whole family and my friends were also in the stands, it’s simply fantastic.”
Where do Tresoldi’s allegiances lie?
Born in Cagliari, Italy, Tresoldi moved to Germany as a child. Graduating from Hannover’s youth academy in 2022, the attacker played 80 games across all competitions, scoring 14 goals, which earned him a move to Club Brugge. There, he scored 23 times in 58 matches, while he already has nine in 11 games already in 2026/27.
However, although a Germany youth international – having scored 16 goals in 27 outings for Germany U21s, the 22-year-old is yet to make a decision on who to represent.
“I’m happy with what I’m doing in Germany, and then we’ll see what happens next,” he explained. “There are many strikers in Germany and Italy who are significantly better than me.
“Perhaps after today, I’ll have a little more confidence in my own abilities.”
