Employees of the Gambia International Airlines (GIA) on Monday staged a peaceful protest, calling for the resignation of the company's Managing Director (MD) amid growing dissatisfaction over what they described as unresolved staff concerns.
The workers gathered at the airline's premises carrying placards and chanting slogans, including "Numo Must Go", as they voiced their frustrations over a number of issues they claim have negatively affected staff welfare and working conditions.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the protest was triggered by longstanding grievances that workers believe have not received adequate attention from the management.
Although the demonstrators remained peaceful throughout the exercise, they urged the relevant authorities to intervene and address their concerns without further delay.
Witnesses said the protesters appeared united in their demands, insisting that meaningful action must be taken to restore confidence among employees and improve conditions within the organisation.
The workers also called on the airline's leadership and government authorities to engage with staff representatives in order to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the workforce.
As of the time of going to press, the management of GIA had not publicly responded to the workers' demands or the calls for the resignation of the Managing Director.
