In terms of gameplay, Cyberfrags '69 feels like a mix of Titanfall 2, Quake and Unreal Tournament. Wall-running, double jumps and fast slides let players race through arenas at breakneck speed while blasting enemies from every direction. Standing still is rarely a good idea, as anyone who stays in one place for too long will quickly find themselves at a disadvantage. An extensive arsenal of weapons, some with rather unusual special abilities, adds plenty of variety. Certain guns can be used as grappling hooks, for example, while others allow players to reposition themselves in an instant. Instead of constantly reloading, many weapons use an overheating system that keeps the firefights moving at a relentless pace.
However, players shouldn't expect much in the way of story. In the campaign, they take on the role of Cyber-Frank and blast their way through hordes of so-called "Cyber-Nazis." Ultimately, though, the story serves as little more than a simple backdrop for the chaotic firefights – which are also available in multiplayer. From online co-op to classic modes such as Free-for-All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, there's plenty to choose from.
There is one catch, however: Cyberfrags '69 has so far reached a peak of just 17 concurrent players. That could make finding multiplayer matches rather difficult. However, the shooter has since climbed into the top 10 of SteamDB's "Hot Releases" chart. With a little luck, more players could soon start filling up the online lobbies.
Cyberfrags '69 has been extremely well received by the Steam community, with 98% of its 148 reviews being positive. Players particularly praise the breakneck pace, fluid movement mechanics and creative weapon arsenal. Some even compare the shooter to Titanfall 2, albeit without the game's signature mechs. On the downside, the very short campaign, technical issues and occasionally awkward level design have drawn criticism.
Free-to-play on Steam
Cyberfrags '69 comes from indie developer D.A.S. Games and originally entered Early Access back in December 2021. After a lengthy period of silence, the developer made a surprise return in early October 2026. In an update, he explained that other commitments had left him with very little time to continue development. As a result, he decided to officially release Cyberfrags '69 and make it permanently free-to-play. A small patch containing several improvements was released alongside it. Whether further updates will follow remains unclear, however. On the Steam Deck, the shooter is rated "Playable."
As a child in the 90s, my Gameboy was my steady companion. After school, the PlayStation was fired up. When I finally got my first PC, I was completely hooked. My passion for gaming has never waned since. For me, writing for Notebookcheck means reporting on topics that are really close to my heart - in addition to gaming, I also like to write about e-mobility, photovoltaics and innovative gadgets. When I'm not sitting at my computer, I'm probably on water rescue duty on the Baltic coast or trying to counteract the downsides of my geek life - namely sitting for long periods - at the local swimming pool.
