India’s mobile data usage rose 8.3% to 84,424 petabytes (PB) in the April–June 2026 quarter, from 77,953 PB in the previous quarter, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
At the same time, the average amount paid per GB of wireless data fell 5.1% to Rs 7.13, from Rs 7.51 in the January–March quarter. This is TRAI’s average figure and does not represent the price of any particular mobile data plan.
The figures were published in TRAI’s Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicators report for April–June 2026.
Mobile users consume more data
The average mobile data subscriber used 28.39 GB per month during the June quarter. This was 6.3% higher than the 26.70 GB recorded in the previous quarter.
The figures also show a steady rise in data consumption since September 2024:
- Total mobile data usage: Increased from 56,174 PB in September 2024 to 84,424 PB in June 2026.
- Average monthly usage per data subscriber: Rose from 21.10 GB to 28.39 GB during the same period.
- Average amount paid per GB: Fell from Rs 9.08 to Rs 7.13.
TRAI’s figures show that mobile subscribers are using more data while the average amount paid per GB has declined.
