United States President Donald Trump already demanded an apology from LeBron James this week over his behavior during the national anthem before his Philadelphia 76ers debut. But that didn’t stop Trump from bringing it up again at a rally on Thursday night.
Speaking on Thursday, Trump once again went after the four-time NBA champion, mimicking James’ golf swing during the anthem and calling it a “big scandal kind of a story.” The comments came moments after Trump also ripped the WNBA over players leaving the court before the anthem in the Finals.
‘He’s No Good’
James made his debut with the 76ers on Tuesday night, scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a 106-100 win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. But it was what James did before the game that got the most attention from conservatives.
During the national anthem before the game, a video shared by ClutchPoints showed James swinging his arms as if he were practicing a golf swing, then going through his shooting motion while the national anthem played.
That led to backlash from right-wing pundits, and on Thursday, Trump demanded an apology on Truth Social.
“While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country! I said right from the beginning that he’s no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE,” Trump wrote, via TheWrap. “LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!”
‘What The Hell Is That?’
Later on Thursday, Trump brought up James again. After complaining about the WNBA’s national anthem situation, Trump turned his attention to James and imitated his golf swing while calling his antics “a big scandal.”
“What the hell is that? No, it’s a big scandal kind of a story. What’s it all about? I don’t understand it. I don’t understand it,” Trump said in a clip shared by conservative commentator Eric Daugherty.
This isn’t the first time Trump has taken shots at James, either. The two have feuded for years, dating back to Trump’s first term. Trump has previously questioned whether James is racist, without offering any explanation for the claim.
“Maybe he’s a racist, but maybe he doesn’t like Trump. I don’t know,” Trump said in July, via WJLA. “But I only like people that like me. So, I would say Michael Jordan all the way.”
Needless to say, Trump does not seem to be ready to bury the hatchet with James.
