Week 9 of the high school football season in the Greater Savannah area is here as teams, coaches and players are focused on closing out the regular season strong while positioning themselves for postseason runs.
It's an abbreviated schedule with just eight games on the slate for Friday night, Oct. 16, as a number of teams have late season weeks off.
There is a big one set for tonight, however, as South Effingham renews its cross-county rivalry with Effingham County.
The Mustangs are off to a 5-1 start with a 2-1 mark in Region 1-6A play and will be at an Effingham County squad that is 4-2 overall while sitting atop of the region with a 3-0 mark.
Bradwell Institute (4-2, 2-1), which is averaging 45 points per game, is looking to light up the scoreboard again as Greenbrier comes to Hinesville to play the Tigers.
This is the spot to follow along for live updates of games involving Savannah area schools on Friday, Oct. 16.
