India expects the Bangladesh government to address security concerns reportedly raised by some minority organisations over the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has said.
"It is our expectation that such issues will be addressed by the Bangladesh government," Jaiswal told a biweekly media briefing in New Delhi today (14 October).
He was responding to a question about concerns voiced by some minority community organisations in Bangladesh over possible vandalism at Durga Puja pandals, with the celebrations scheduled to begin on 16 October.
The concerns reportedly follow incidents in Sylhet, Rajbari, Panchagarh and Tangail districts.
Asked about Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed's absence from the first Bimstec home ministers' meeting in New Delhi yesterday, Jaiswal referred to the Delhi Declaration issued after the meeting.
"The declaration outlined joint action plans to address security threats in the region," he said.
