Jonathan David continues to impress at Atletico Madrid after joining the Spanish club on loan during the last transfer window. His performances have reportedly convinced the club that he could be worth keeping permanently, offering Juventus the possibility of securing a transfer fee for a player who struggled during his time in Turin.
The Canadian joined Juventus as a free agent after leaving Lille, but his only season with the Bianconeri did not go as planned. He subsequently moved to Spain in search of an opportunity to prove his quality, and his progress has now put his future firmly in the spotlight.
Atletico consider making David’s move permanent
Atletico Madrid have a €25 million option to make David’s transfer permanent, which they can activate at the end of the season. His recent performances have strengthened the case for keeping him, with the Spanish club pleased with what he has delivered since arriving.
This is the second consecutive season in which Atletico have taken an attacker on loan from Juventus. However, their previous experience did not result in a permanent transfer, despite having the opportunity to retain Nicolas Gonzalez last season.
Atletico enjoyed Gonzalez’s contribution but ultimately failed to sign him permanently because they wanted a discount. David’s situation could be different, as his performances appear to have persuaded the club that he is worth retaining.

Juventus could benefit from David’s progress
According to Corriere dello Sport, Atletico believe they have seen enough from David to conclude that they should not miss the opportunity to add him to their squad permanently. Their reported stance would represent a positive outcome for Juventus, who want the forward’s loan spell to lead to a permanent departure.
For the Bianconeri, the potential deal could also prove financially beneficial. Juventus signed David on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, meaning a permanent sale for €25 million would allow them to collect a significant fee without having paid a transfer fee to acquire him.
David’s improvement in Spain has therefore created an opportunity for all parties. Atletico could secure a forward they believe can contribute to their team, while Juventus would receive money from a player who failed to establish himself in Turin.
