Revenue climbed 3.5% even as a Bitcoin-related writedown pushed the company deep into the red.
Capital B closed the first half of 2026 with a substantial net loss, driven largely by an accounting impairment tied to its Bitcoin holdings. CryptoBriefing reported the loss at €69.5 million. Cointelegraph reported a figure of roughly $78 million for the same period. The discrepancy could stem from currency conversion differences between euro and dollar reporting, or from variations in how each outlet characterized the underlying financial statements.
Despite the loss, Capital B's revenue rose 3.5% during the half, according to CryptoBriefing. That growth suggests the company's core business operations continued to expand even as its balance sheet absorbed losses tied to digital asset holdings. The split between operational performance and treasury-related impairment is a recurring theme among corporations that hold Bitcoin as a reserve asset.
Impairment charges of this kind are a familiar feature for companies that account for Bitcoin under traditional cost-based accounting rules in many jurisdictions. Under those frameworks, companies must write down the value of Bitcoin holdings when market prices fall below the asset's carrying value, but they generally cannot mark the asset back up when prices recover, unless the asset is sold. That asymmetry can produce large reported losses even when a company's actual cash position or long-term strategy remains intact.
Capital B has positioned itself among a group of publicly traded firms that hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets as a strategic reserve asset, a model popularized by larger corporate treasury adopters. These companies often argue that near-term accounting losses do not reflect the long-term thesis behind holding Bitcoin. Critics counter that such losses can still weigh on investor sentiment and complicate quarterly financial reporting, particularly when losses are large relative to overall revenue.
The timing of the impairment also matters. Bitcoin's price movements during the first half of 2026 would have directly influenced the size of any writedown Capital B was required to book. Neither source provided the specific Bitcoin price levels that triggered the charge, nor the exact size of Capital B's Bitcoin holdings at the time of reporting.
Investors and analysts tracking corporate Bitcoin treasury strategies will likely scrutinize Capital B's full financial disclosures once they become available, to reconcile the different loss figures reported and to understand the scale of the company's digital asset exposure relative to its overall balance sheet.
Market Impact
A large impairment charge tied to Bitcoin holdings can weigh on a company's reported earnings without necessarily changing its underlying cash flow or operational health. For Capital B, the revenue growth alongside the net loss suggests the core business remained functional even as the Bitcoin writedown dominated the bottom line. Investors in companies that hold Bitcoin as a treasury asset often weigh accounting losses against the long-term appreciation thesis for the asset.
The divergence between the euro and dollar loss figures reported by the two outlets may also prompt scrutiny of how Capital B's financial statements are translated and presented across different markets. Clarity on the exact loss figure, once official filings are available, will matter for comparisons with other publicly traded firms pursuing similar Bitcoin treasury strategies.
Capital B's first-half results underscore the accounting volatility that can accompany corporate Bitcoin holdings, even as the underlying business showed modest revenue growth.
