The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has developed an animated video in the Pashto language to raise awareness about reporting suspected adverse events associated with medicines and improve access to medicine safety information among healthcare professionals and patients.
The video has been developed by the National Pharmacovigilance Centre (NPC) as part of its efforts to strengthen pharmacovigilance and encourage the timely reporting of suspected adverse reactions and other medicine-related safety concerns.
The initiative aims to overcome language barriers by providing guidance in Pashto on how healthcare professionals and patients can report adverse events through available reporting mechanisms.
DRAP has encouraged healthcare professionals and patients to report suspected adverse events to the Provincial Pharmacovigilance Centre of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or the National Pharmacovigilance Centre.
The authority emphasized that reporting suspected adverse events was essential for identifying potential medicine safety concerns, monitoring risks and supporting regulatory decisions to protect public health.
Pharmacovigilance involves the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects and other medicine-related problems. Timely reporting helps authorities gather safety information and identify potential risks that may not have been apparent before medicines were widely used.
The initiative also seeks to promote a culture of medicine safety by encouraging patients, healthcare providers and other stakeholders to play an active role in monitoring and reporting suspected adverse reactions.
DRAP has made the adverse event reporting form available online to facilitate the submission of reports and urged the public and healthcare professionals to use the available channels to contribute to safer use of medicines.
The authority stressed that greater public awareness and effective reporting mechanisms could strengthen medicine safety monitoring and help protect patients across the country.
