KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional candidates will not clash with Umno or Barisan Nasional candidates in the upcoming Melaka election, says PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said PN members had been told to support BN candidates, while BN members would also have the option of supporting PN candidates.
Takiyuddin said the cooperation between the two coalitions was initiated by Pas's central leadership and approved by the party's Syura Ulama Council.
"Our members are always obedient and loyal to the leadership. They stand with us and have confidence in this cooperation because it was initiated by Pas's central leadership and approved by the Syura Ulama Council," he said.
He said PN was fully prepared for the polls, with its election machinery from several states, including Kelantan, already mobilised despite not knowing which constituencies the coalition would contest.
"We are ready. Our machinery from various states, including Kelantan, has already gone down to the ground, even though we do not yet know which constituencies we will contest.
"However, that is not a problem. We are prepared to contest anywhere because our coalition will contest all the seats allocated to us," he said.
On candidate selection, Takiyuddin said the names would undergo the usual screening process by the coalition's leadership to ensure those chosen were suitable to represent PN.
The Melaka election is scheduled for Nov 14, with nominations on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.
