Lamine Yamal continues to fan the flames, driving his run at this year’s Ballon d’Or as Barcelona faces a stern test of its title credentials away to third-placed Real Betis on Saturday. Los Cules have already opened up a five-point gap at La Liga’s summit in search of a third straight crown and are hunting an 11th straight win in all competitions this term.
Yamal has enjoyed ferocious form so far this season and already boasts 12 goals and 10 assists for club and country across his last 12 games. That equates to an average of almost two direct goal contributions per game in that span, giving Bayern Munich’s cause for major concern in his bid to win the Ballon d’Or.
Los Verdiblancos have impressed in their own right, however, and have recorded just one loss in all competitions. While Barca came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday, Betis staged its own comeback at home to Porto, winning 3-2 thanks to a late penalty from midfield talisman Isco.
Even more worrying for Betis is the news that Hansi Flick has Raphinha, La Liga’s top scorer on 12 goals, back in his selection following a hamstring injury. Aitor Ruibal is back for Manuel Pellegrini’s hosts, meanwhile, but left-back Junior Firpo remains out with an adductor injury and won’t face his old club.
