Caitlin Clark was back courtside in Indianapolis on Friday night, but this time the Indiana Fever superstar was watching a different basketball team take center stage.
Clark attended the Indiana Pacers’ home opener against the Dallas Mavericks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, showing her support for Tyrese Haliburton as he played his first home game since returning from a devastating Achilles injury.
Taylor Swift makes her excitement to see Caitlin Clark impossible to hide during Chiefs game
Her appearance came while the WNBA Finals continued without the Fever, who were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
With the championship series between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries generating plenty of attention, Clark’s decision to spend the evening watching the NBA offered a reminder that her basketball interests extend beyond her own league.
There is no indication that Clark was deliberately avoiding news about the Finals or Angel Reese. However, her appearance at the Pacers game put her in the spotlight at a time when Reese is competing for a WNBA championship with Atlanta.
Clark and Haliburton have developed a close friendship through their shared connection to Indiana basketball.
The Fever guard has supported the Pacers star during his recovery, while Haliburton has also made appearances at Fever games, highlighting the relationship between the state's two professional basketball franchises.
The occasion was particularly meaningful for Haliburton, whose return to the court had been one of the major talking points surrounding the start of the NBA season.
Clark supports Haliburton as the Pacers begin a new chapter
Haliburton had been sidelined since tearing his right Achilles tendon during Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The injury came at a devastating moment for Indiana, which had reached the deciding game of the championship series before losing its star guard.
He subsequently missed the entire 2025-26 campaign while recovering, leaving the Pacers without one of their most important players.
His competitive return arrived on Wednesday, when Indiana opened its season against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Haliburton delivered an impressive performance, scoring 23 points and recording 12 assists in a dramatic 123-120 victory. He also played a decisive role in the closing stages, helping the Pacers secure the win.
Friday's game therefore represented another milestone in his comeback, marking his first appearance at Gainbridge Fieldhouse since the injury that ended his previous season.
Clark's presence showed her support for a player who has experienced the emotional and physical challenges of a lengthy rehabilitation.
Haliburton had previously attended a Fever game against the Phoenix Mercury on June 22, 2026, when he even helped retrieve a basketball that had become stuck behind the backboard.
That moment illustrated how the two Indiana stars have embraced their roles as representatives of the state's basketball community.
For Clark, attending the Pacers game also provided an opportunity to enjoy the sport away from the pressures of her own season. The Fever had already completed their campaign, giving her time to follow the NBA as Haliburton resumed his career.
The evening did not, however, end with a victory for the home team. Dallas defeated Indiana 121-105, spoiling the Pacers' home opener despite the excitement surrounding Haliburton's return.
Angel Reese and the WNBA Finals continue without Clark
While Clark watched from Indianapolis, Reese was helping Atlanta pursue the first championship in franchise history.
The Dream entered the Finals against the Golden State Valkyries after sweeping the New York Liberty in the semifinals. Reese had been a major contributor to Atlanta's playoff run, establishing herself as one of the team's leading performers during a successful first season with the franchise.
The Finals have already produced several compelling performances. Golden State won the opening game 68-64, but Atlanta responded with a 79-65 victory in Game 2, with Reese recording 30 points and 16 rebounds.
The Dream then won Game 3 by a score of 97-71, taking a 2-1 series lead into Saturday's fourth matchup.
Reese's involvement in the championship series inevitably brings renewed attention to her long-running public rivalry with Clark, which dates back to their college basketball days.
Their matchups have become major talking points among fans, with discussions about their respective performances often extending well beyond the court.
Nevertheless, Clark's attendance at an NBA game should not automatically be interpreted as a statement about Reese or the Finals.
The Fever star was there to support Haliburton during an important moment in his comeback, and the two players have consistently demonstrated mutual support through their connection to Indiana basketball.
With Clark's offseason underway and the WNBA championship still to be decided, the two storylines are unfolding separately.
For one evening, the focus was on Haliburton's return and the Pacers' attempt to start their new campaign strongly, rather than on the Finals race in the WNBA.
