Moraira’s Teatre Portitxolet launched its 2026–2027 cultural programme on Friday, October 23, with the world premiere of a new play exploring community history and the protection of local heritage. The production, Maleducades: El preu de la memòria, or The Price of Memory, opened the programme under the Catalan slogan ‘Posem-li color a la vida’, meaning ‘Let’s add colour to life’.
A new play explores the value of local heritage and memory
Written by Daniel Ibanco and performed by the theatre group’s adult cast, the play centres on the proposed sale of an old school building to make way for an urban development project. The decision threatens a significant place for the local community, filled with memories and nostalgia. The play, through humour, irony and social commentary, encourages audiences to consider the importance of preserving a town’s heritage.
The premiere of the successful show took place at 9:30pm in the Tina Bru auditorium at Espai La Senieta in Moraira. The opening weekend also featured activities beyond the theatre, with the group bringing culture and the arts closer to the community.
Traditional street games bring culture to the community
On Saturday, October 24, Teatre Portitxolet organised ‘Recuperem els carrers del poble’, or Let’s Reclaim the Town’s Streets), a traditional games event on Calle Doctor Calatayud. Running from 11:00am to 1:00pm, the activity encouraged the little ones in the town to rediscover the streets as places to play, socialise and spend time together.
Moraira’s cultural programme continues into 2027
The cultural programme will continue in December, with ‘Feliç Any Morairero’, followed by January activities celebrating the Epiphany and the traditional Sant Antoni festivities, which will take place midway through the month.
Through this vibrant new programme, Teatre Portitxolet will strengthen Moraira’s cultural life and offerings, preserve local traditions and create opportunities for residents and visitors of different generations to come together in Moraira’s charming streets and cultural venues.
