KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Nepal could experience three to four days of rainfall, including heavy rain in some areas, from Thursday as a weather system approaches the country, meteorologist Binod Pokharel has warned.
Pokharel said Thursday night through Friday night could be the riskiest period for rainfall.
In a video forecast, he said a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move towards Nepal, while another western weather system could also become active, increasing the likelihood of heavy precipitation.

Weather forecasting models indicate that the system will move towards Nepal via Andhra Pradesh in India and could reach the country around October 27. Clouds may begin to gather from Tuesday, with rainfall potentially starting Thursday night.
Bagmati likely to receive the heaviest rainfall
Pokharel forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of the country between October 29 and November 1. Some areas, particularly in Bagmati Province, could receive more than 150 millimetres of rain over four days. Parts of Koshi and Gandaki provinces could also experience significant rainfall.
His forecast identifies 29 districts at elevated risk from prolonged or intense rainfall. These districts are mainly located in Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati and Koshi provinces.
Pokharel also highlighted the risk in Manang, where additional rainfall could increase hazards in areas previously affected by an avalanche that caused casualties. He urged authorities and residents to remain alert.
He said moisture carried by the Bay of Bengal system, combined with an upper-atmospheric trough, could intensify rainfall. Nepal’s mountainous and Himalayan terrain could further amplify precipitation in some areas.
The forecast indicates comparatively lower impacts in Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces, although other provinces could experience significant rainfall.
Pokharel cautioned that forecasts may change as weather models are updated, potentially affecting both the expected rainfall amounts and the list of high-risk districts.
