Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, has promised to provide a house, free medical treatment and psychosocial support to a family rescued from kidnappers, assuring them of government assistance until they fully recover from their ordeal.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when he visited Malam Ahmed Abubakar Zakka, his wife, Nafisah, and their daughter, Fatima, at the Kaduna State Government safe house, where they are receiving medical care following their release from captivity.
Sani said the government would provide the family with a suitable house within Kaduna metropolis, cover all their medical expenses and ensure they receive continued psychosocial care to help them recover from the trauma of their experience.
He said the government had engaged highly qualified doctors to attend to the family, adding that Ahmed had undergone several medical tests, while his wife and daughter had been found to have no injuries.
The governor expressed relief at the family’s progress and assured them that his administration would continue to support them as they recover and rebuild their lives.
He said the assistance was part of his administration’s commitment to supporting victims of banditry and kidnapping, recalling that the government had provided houses to some victims and continued to resettle families affected by insecurity since he assumed office.
During the visit, Sani also warned politicians against politicising insecurity, describing such conduct as criminal, ungodly and dangerous to the lives of citizens.
He accused some politicians, including presidential hopefuls, of using the family’s abduction to advance political interests but failing to acknowledge their safe return.
“I always say that in Kaduna here we don’t politicize the issue of security. This is the season; a lot of people that came out to talk about their kidnap were only trying to politicize the situation. It’s not because they care about their safety,” he said.
The governor added that some politicians who publicly commented on the family’s abduction had not come forward to acknowledge their safe return.
“We are not distracted as a government. Some people wanted to distract us; some even presidential candidates came out to talk about their release. Unfortunately, when they returned home, even the family told me they are shocked. None of those people came out to even thank God,” he said.
Sani urged Nigerians, particularly politicians, to refrain from using security challenges for political advantage, stressing that the lives of citizens should not become instruments of political competition.
He said the family’s safe return had strengthened his administration’s resolve to tackle banditry and other criminal activities through improved coordination with security agencies and closer engagement with communities.
The governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his personal engagement and concern for the family’s safety. He also commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and security agencies for their contributions to securing their release.
He further appreciated Nigerians who prayed for the family’s safe return, saying their recovery remained a priority for his administration.
In his response, Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal and Kaduna state governments and security agencies for their efforts and support, saying the care he was receiving and his confidence in recovery had encouraged him.
