- Franco Mostert and his wife Juan-Ri revealed their fresh produce farming business, Sous Plaas, on Instagram
- The Springbok lock, who has 85 test caps, also co-owns a self-catering farmhouse called Die Mostert Plaashuis in the North West
- Mostert joins several fellow Springboks who have ventured into farming and agricultural business
Springbok lock Franco Mostert has taken his entrepreneurial ambitions beyond the rugby field, sharing details of his growing farming venture with followers on social media.
Mostert and his wife, Juan-Ri, used their respective Instagram accounts to offer a glimpse into Sous Plaas, the couple's fresh produce business. The operation cultivates and supplies vegetables including lettuce, onions, carrots and beetroot to local supermarkets.
Sous Plaas and Die Mostert Plaashuis
Alongside the produce enterprise, the couple run a self-catering holiday accommodation called Die Mostert Plaashuis, situated in the North West province.
Sous Plaas also shared a video clip of the 85-test cap Springbok operating a tractor across an open field during one of his rest periods. The business captioned the post with the Afrikaans phrase "Baas van die plaas," loosely translated as "Boss of the farm."
Fellow Springboks with agricultural roots
Mostert is not alone among current Springboks who have invested in agriculture. Pieter-Steph du Toit's family operates Kloovenburg Wine and Olive Estate in the Western Cape, which produces wine, grape juice, olives and avocados.
Kwagga Smith owns a guest farm in Mpumalanga that also cultivates maize, soy, pecans and walnuts. Retired loosehead prop Duane Vermeulen has likewise turned to the land, owning a walnut farm near his restaurant in the Free State.
The trend reflects a broader pattern of professional rugby players securing agricultural livelihoods alongside their sporting careers.
