San Francisco 49ers WR Mike Evans left the team’s 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders with an apparent Achilles injury.
Evans had a strong outing against the Commanders, putting up 94 yards on three receptions through the first two quarters. However, he was absent in the second half after seemingly getting hurt without contact with a minute left in the first half.
Evans has dealt with multiple injuries over the last few seasons, and this latest injury, coupled with the 49ers’ shaky injury past, has led to a lot of concern.
Mike Evans’ Achilles injury had fans upset
After Evans got hurt, fans were quick to react by blaming the electric substation near the 49ers’ training facility, perpetuating a belief that the substation makes players more injury-prone.
“Get ’em outta here. No one escapes the Substation,” joked one fan.
“Substation strikes again,” said another fan, perpetuating the Substation joke.
“Typical Mike, it’s an every-year thing for him. What did y’all expect?” lamented a fan.
“Substation putting up Wilt numbers,” joked another fan.
“Clearly wasn’t 100% out there. Did he seriously just make his Achilles injury worse in a random game against the Commanders where they would have won regardless? The 49ers don’t do themselves any favours with some of these injuries,” said a fan, blaming the 49ers for their poor approach.
Evans came into the game with Achilles issues and missed the week’s scheduled practices. While the team has confirmed that Evans did not tear his Achilles and is expected to miss a little bit of time as compared to suffering a debilitating tear, this is a big concern.
The 49ers WR room is depleted with injuries to Deebo Samuel, Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, De’Zhaun Stribling, and Christian Kirk. Evans’ absence makes this a much harder situation to bounce back from for the 6-0 49ers.
Evans has had 27 receptions on roughly 39 targets for 420 yards this season, converting three touchdowns.
