KATHMANDU: US Embassy in Kathmandu Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Megan Bouldin met with Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai on Tuesday to discuss strengthening the Nepal-US partnership, including the ongoing delivery of more than $36 million in US assistance to Nepal following the devastating floods of August 26.
During the meeting, Bouldin thanked Rai for the efforts to locate and identify missing American citizens. She also expressed US sympathies to Nepali communities affected by the floods of August 26 and October 11, according to the US Embassy in Kathmandu.
The meeting focused on the longstanding partnership between Nepal and the United States, with particular attention to ongoing flood relief assistance and support for affected communities.
Bouldin’s expression of appreciation for Nepal’s efforts to locate and identify missing Americans also underscored cooperation between the two sides in addressing the consequences of the disasters.
The meeting comes as Nepal continues to face the impacts of seasonal flooding, which has caused loss of life, damage to infrastructure and disruption to livelihoods in several parts of the country.
Both countries have maintained cooperation across various areas, including development assistance, disaster response, economic engagement and people-to-people relations. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination between Kathmandu and Washington on shared priorities and humanitarian concerns.
