Kangpokpi, Oct 15: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen has condemned the fatal attack on civilians along the Molvailup–Phaikoh route in Kamjong district, which claimed the life of Hatneikim Haokip and left her husband, Jamkhongam Haokip, seriously injured on Thursday.
In a statement Kipgen expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished Jamkhongam Haokip a speedy recovery.
Describing the incident as a “grave criminal act”, she urged the district administration to take swift action to identify and apprehend those responsible and restore order in the area.
“Violence against innocent civilians achieves nothing and harms everyone,” Kipgen said.
Appealing to leaders, youth and citizens across communities, the Deputy Chief Minister urged people to maintain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from spreading rumours or responding to provocations.
“Peace, mutual respect, and the safety of all people must remain our shared and highest commitment,” she added.
The attack reportedly took place on October 15 when four Kuki-Zo villagers travelling from Molvailup to Phaikoh to purchase essential commodities were ambushed. Hatneikim Haokip was killed in the attack, while her husband sustained serious injuries.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in parts of Manipur following a series of violent incidents involving civilians from different communities. The recovery of a deceased Naga civilian in Kangpokpi has also contributed to concerns over security in the region.
