MONROVIA, October 14, 2026 – The Liberian government is undertaking extensive renovations of public schools across Monrovia to improve learning conditions and bring educational facilities up to international standards, Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs Daniel Sando has disclosed.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Sando said several schools under the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) have undergone major improvements, including repairs to roofs, ceilings, floors and bathrooms, as well as painting and the provision of modern classroom chairs.
He named Boswen High School, Newport Junior and Senior High School, and G. David Gibson High School among institutions benefiting from the initiative.
“That’s part of the work of the team at the Monrovia Consolidated School System. It’s all part of government efforts, not just to make education affordable to citizens of the country, but to make the classroom where quality education is being offered very conducive for school-going children,” Sando said.
He commended the MCSS administration for the renovations, adding that the Ministry of Public Works is inspecting the facilities to assess the work.
Sando maintained that the improvements demonstrate government’s commitment to providing better learning environments for public school students.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the University of Liberia’s library on Capitol Hill is undergoing major renovation as part of efforts to improve facilities at the country’s premier public university.
According to him, the project is intended to complement government’s tuition-free tertiary education policy by ensuring that students have access to improved academic facilities.
He said additional details on the scope of the university library renovation would be provided Thursday.
On infrastructure development, Sando acknowledged that heavy rainfall has slowed road construction across the country but assured the public that government projects remain ongoing.
He also confirmed that the 55th Legislature resumed regular activities last Friday for the third and final quarter of its third session following the annual constituency break.
