The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has strongly condemned reported racist abuse and death threats directed at Sierra Leonean international defender Juma Bah, who is currently on loan at German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.
In a statement, the Association expressed deep concern over the disturbing incidents, including threats reportedly directed at the player’s family, describing such behaviour as unacceptable both in football and society.
The SLFA reaffirmed its solidarity with Bah, his family and FC Augsburg during the difficult period. It also commended the German club for taking the matter seriously, reporting the incident to the police and pursuing legal options to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
The Association stressed that football is a unifying force that brings together people from different nationalities, cultures and backgrounds. It warned that racism, intimidation and threats of violence undermine the fundamental values of respect, fairness, inclusion and sportsmanship that the game represents.
According to the SLFA, every player deserves to compete and live without fear of racial discrimination, harassment or threats to their personal safety.
The Association further called on football governing bodies, clubs, law enforcement agencies, social media platforms and supporters worldwide to unite against racism and take decisive action against all forms of abuse.
It reiterated its commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive football environment where every player is respected, protected and valued, regardless of skin colour, nationality or background.
The SLFA concluded by reaffirming its full support for Bah and FC Augsburg, urging all football stakeholders to work collectively towards eradicating racism and other forms of abuse from the game.
