KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 25 areas recorded unhealthy air quality as of 5pm today, with Johan Setia in Selangor registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 168.
According to the Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur recorded the second-highest reading at 165, followed by Nilai in Negri Sembilan at 164.
Another 39 locations recorded moderate API readings, including areas in Johor, Pahang, Selangor and Sarawak.
An API reading of 101 to 200 is classified as unhealthy, while readings between 51 and 100 indicate moderate air quality.
Higher API readings indicate greater health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.
The public, especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory or heart conditions, are advised to limit prolonged outdoor activities when air quality deteriorates.
