BYD Sime Motors has opened a new 3S centre in Miri, Sarawak, expanding its sales and aftersales network in the state as it builds up support for its electric vehicles (EVs).
The 12,228 square feet (sq ft) facility is the company's largest 3S centre in Sarawak, combining vehicle sales, servicing and spare parts under one roof.
It comprises a 5,838 sq ft showroom with space for five vehicles and a 6,390 sq ft service centre equipped with six service bays, with capacity to handle up to 35 vehicles daily.
Other facilities include a customer lounge, vehicle delivery bay and EV charging points for sales and service customers.
The centre is operated by Kah Progression Auto Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oriental Holdings Bhd, and has 15 employees across its sales and aftersales operations.
Sime Motors Southeast Asia managing director Jeffrey Gan said the facility would increase the group's capacity to serve customers in Sarawak.
The opening follows Sime Motors' establishment of East Malaysia's first BYD 3S centre in Kota Kinabalu in December 2024.
BYD Sime Motors now has three authorised outlets in Sarawak, located in Kuching, Sibu and Miri, with the latest facility providing additional service capacity for customers in the northern part of the state.
BYD Malaysia managing director Jacob Ma said the expansion was aimed at making the company's vehicles and aftersales services more accessible as EV adoption spreads beyond major cities.
"The opening of the Miri 3S Ccentre marks another important step in strengthening BYD's presence in East Malaysia.
"As EV adoption grows beyond major cities, we want to be closer to our customers and make our products and aftersales support more accessible," Ma added.
To mark the opening, Kah Progression Auto will hold a roadshow at Bintang Megamall's Ground Floor, East Court (Old Wing), from Oct 16-18.
