Yes, Friday night's Westlake vs. Lake Travis game that's being played at shiny, newly renovated Cavalier Stadium is the game of the week as Central Texas roars into Week 9 of the 2026 high school football season. The Chaps vs. Cavs game usually is. However, this year's District 25-6A showdown features two first-year starting quarterbacks and the Austin area's Nos. 2 and 4 teams, not the more common 1 vs. 2 matchup.
Tonight's slate of games around Central Texas offer several gems as teams race toward the end of the regular season, not just Westlake-Lake Travis. After this week, most teams will have two games left before the playoffs. If there are playoffs. Some of the best ones we're watching:

• East View at Cedar Park: The Timberwolves (8-0, 4-0) are one of four remaining undefeated teams in Central Texas, and while the Patriots (3-4) have had their ups and downs, they were a 7-4 playoff team last year and hung tough with Cedar Park in 2025 (42-38). Cedar Park closes with Vandegrift next week.
• Georgetown at A&M Consolidated: Sure, Consol (5-2, 4-1) is at home and expected to win, but Georgetown (4-4, 3-3) is a tough out, coming off a 28-21 loss to Weiss, and needs this one.
• Stephenville at Jarrell: A huge game for undefeated Jarrell (7-0, 2-0), facing 7-0 Stephenville for the District 12-4A Division I title. Oh, the Yellow Jackets are the defending Class 4A DI state champions, too.
• Wimberley at Lago Vista: Another big matchup from the lower classifications. The undefeated Texans (6-0, 2-0) are on the road to play red-hot Lago Vista (6-1, 2-0), which has won six straight games since losing their season opener. The Vikings have averaged 49.5 points in their last five games.

Glenn, Vista Ridge, Westwood, Johnson, Legacy Ranch, Smithville and undefeated Thorndale are off this week. And Friday's LASA at Pflugerville game was called off Thursday; LASA, citing low numbers, has forfeited the rest of its games.
We're all over Westlake vs. Lake Travis tonight. Colby Gordon and Shaun Chornobroff are both there, live blogging out of Cavalier Stadium.
