Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi visited Zubeen Kshetra on Friday morning and paid tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg, raising questions over the delay in completing the memorial site for nearly a year.
Gogoi further criticised the state government over the unfinished work at Zubeen Kshetra, saying the visit brought several concerns to his mind.
“We are going through a difficult and painful time as the process of seeking justice for Zubeen Da continues. Everyone is coming to him to find courage during this difficult period, and we have come here too. Zubeen Da himself had realised that he was gradually being exploited.
This became evident from the things he said in his interview with Rita Chowdhury. The injustice done to Zubeen Da will be the biggest stain on the already tainted chapter of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma s political career. He has not been able to substantiate with evidence in court the statements he made in the Assembly," he said.
It is shameful that a government which wanted to go to Pakistan to gather evidence in my case has failed to produce evidence in Zubeen Garg's case. A major question is why the Chief Minister has not appointed the Advocate General, who is considered close to him, to handle this case so far. The work at Zubeen Kshetra is also progressing slowly,” he added
He questioned why the government, which has been able to construct flyovers within a short period, has taken so long to complete the memorial dedicated to the popular Assamese singer. Gogoi pointed out that work at the site remains incomplete even a year after Zubeen Garg’s death.
The APCC president also raised concerns over the progress of the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death and the legal proceedings in the case.
He alleged that shortcomings in the charge sheet had contributed to some of the accused securing bail. Gogoi added that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee was closely monitoring the developments in the case.
