Actor Kunal Kapoor has praised his Ramayana co-star Ranbir Kapoor, describing him as an ideal choice to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming adaptation of the Hindu epic.
Kunal, who plays Lord Indra Dev in the film, believes the role demands a rare combination of composure, grace and restraint. “Ranbir is the perfect choice,” he said.
“Shree Ram is the hardest kind of role because you can’t perform him, you have to be him. It needs stillness, grace, an actor who can say everything while doing almost nothing. Very few people can hold a frame that quietly. Ranbir can,” the actor added.
Kunal also lauded producer Namit Malhotra for his commitment to the ambitious project, calling him a visionary. “I’ve been in this industry 25 years, and I’ve rarely seen anyone bring this much passion and love to a project. The time and resources he’s poured into this are unreal. This isn’t a film for him. It’s a mission,” he said.
Mounted on a global scale, Ramayana is backed by Malhotra’s DNEG and Prime Focus Studios. The film is scheduled to release on November 5.
The cast includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, among others. Arun Govil, who became widely known for portraying Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s television series Ramayan, will essay the role of King Dasharatha in the new adaptation.
The project is also backed by Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Dharma Productions will oversee distribution across North India’s Hindi-speaking markets, while Sony Pictures will handle its international release.
The film marks the first on-screen collaboration between Ranbir and Kunal.
