The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued two 13-year-old girls from a suspected human trafficker in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Bala Abubakar from Zurmi Local Government Area, was arrested in the Lalan area of Gusau on Thursday, 15 October, while allegedly transporting the girls from Shinkafi Local Government Area.

The Zamfara State NSCDC Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect intended to deliver the girls to two women identified as Hadiza and Bara’atu, also known as Yar Baba, in Suleja, Niger State.
The girls, identified as Amira Baje Ibrahim and Haulatu Shaibu, are both from Zurmi LGA.
In a statement signed by the command’s Head of Public Relations, Mohammad Umar, the NSCDC said the case had been transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and necessary action.
The command said the transfer was part of its collaboration with relevant agencies to address suspected human trafficking and child labour.
It reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal activities and warned that suspects would face prosecution in a competent court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The rescue comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to combat human trafficking and protect children from exploitation.
