A Pakistani man from Punjab has settled in Kushtia with his Bangladeshi wife after spending nearly six months together in Pakistan, following a romance that began with a Facebook friendship around two years ago.
Laboni, from Aruapara in Kushtia city, and Farhan, from Pakistan's Punjab province, have drawn local attention over their cross-border relationship.
Their connection began on Facebook, where regular conversations gradually turned their friendship into a romantic relationship.
Initially, Laboni used a fake Facebook account featuring another young woman's photograph. When Farhan asked for her picture, she sent him the same image. He discovered the truth during a video call, realising that the woman in the photograph was not Laboni.
Despite the revelation, they continued communicating and grew closer.
Farhan eventually proposed to Laboni. After informing their families and securing their consent, they decided to marry.
According to the couple, they married online around seven months ago. Farhan then took Laboni to Pakistan, where they held another marriage ceremony in accordance with Pakistani law and Islamic Sharia.
They lived together in Pakistan for nearly six months before returning to Bangladesh.
The couple are now living in Kushtia and considering where to settle permanently. They said both hold 10-year family visas.
The couple also plan to start a business by importing Pakistani clothing, particularly three-piece outfits, for online sales.
They hope the venture will help them establish a business while expanding the market for Pakistani clothing.
Their relationship has brought together two people from different countries, languages and cultural backgrounds, becoming a subject of curiosity among local residents.
